IGTV Ads: How Can Content Creators Make Money from Instagram?
Instagram recently announced the implementation of IGTV ads. This new feature allows monetization of IGTV videos. Enabling creators to make money on IGTV, Instagram is putting this initiative to action next week in hopes to encourage and motivate creators to make video content for IGTV.
This initiative will commence as early as next week. However, it will only be a test phase. With the trial phase being available to a select few within the United States, Instagram will perfect this feature by testing various ad options before making it fully available internationally.
IGTV Ads
IGTV Ads will be mobile optimized. For businesses looking to create ads, ensuring that the main content of your ad can fit a 9:16 ratio or 1080x1920 is beneficial. For creators, the same applies. For a smooth and professional transition from the ads to your content, sticking to a frame of 1080x1920 will be a more pleasant experience for viewers.
Instagram states that ads can last as long as 15 seconds. IGTV Ads will only appear and play when users click on an IGTV video with the intention to watch the full video. The ads will not play on video previews.
How Will Creators Make Money from IGTV Ads?
With 200 approved creators for the testing phase of IGTV Ads, COO of Instagram, Mr. Osofsky states that creators will be paid 55% of the cut in an interview with the Verge.
However, creators have to adhere to a monetization policy and create brand-friendly content in order to make money from their content.
Here are a few of the policies that stood out:
Creators cannot be monetized if Instagram notices that their engagements are artificial. If a majority of the likes, comments, and shares are identified as fake, creators will not be eligible for monetization. Engagement must be acquired organically.
Creators must have an established presence on the platform with a sufficient amount of followers maintained.
Static videos, slideshows, and videos that mainly contain texts are prohibited.
I encourage all businesses, content creators, and other parties who will benefit from being monetized to familiarize themselves with Instagram Partner Monetization Policies as well as Instagram Content Monetization Policies and start creating content to adhere to these policies to ensure being monetized in the near future.
Once IGTV implements this feature globally, it will be in direct competition with Youtube. This competition between two of the top tech companies, Facebook and Google, can result in content creators possibly earning more as the industry share standard will shift as the two will compete to attract more creators. That or one will buy the other.
But one thing is for sure, with the rise of IGTV and mobile-optimized streaming services, I can see a shift in videography and video marketing. The approach to filming movies, ads, explainer videos, and so forth is changing. Adapt today and stay ahead!
